Huang [email protected], Hui He [email protected] Empirical evidence suggests that both leisure time and medical care are important for maintaining health. We develop a general equilibrium macroeconomic model in which taxation is a key determinant of the composition of these two inputs in the endogenous accumulation of health capital. In our model, higher taxes lead to using relatively more leisure time and less medical care in maintaining health. We find that difference in taxation between the US and Europe can account for a large fraction of their difference in health expenditure-GDP ratio and almost all of their difference in time input for health production. Status Equilibrium for Local Public Good Economies

We define a concept of status equilibrium for local public good economies. A status equilibrium specifies one status index for each agent in an economy. These indices determine agents’ cost shares in any possible jurisdiction. We provide an axiomatic characterization of status equilibrium using consistency properties. ∗We thank James Foster, John Conley, Rick Bond, and participants of PET05 for...

Identi cation in Auctions with Selective Entry∗

This paper considers nonparametric identi cation of a two-stage entry and bidding game we call the A liated-Signal (AS) model. This model assumes that potential bidders have private values, observe signals of their values prior to entry, and then choose whether to undertake a costly entry process, but imposes only minimal structure on the relationship between signals and values. It thereby nest...
